A Atriz Eugênia Câmara

— Antonio de Castro Alves

No dia seguinte ao de uma vaia
sofrida no Teatro Santa Isabel, no
Recife.

HOJE ESTAMOS unidos a adorar-te
Tu és a nossa glória, a nossa fé,
Gravitar para ti é levantar-se,
Cair-te í s plantas é ficar de pé!...

Ontem a infí¢mia te cobria de lama
Mas pra insultar-te se cobriu de pó! ...
Miseráveis que ferem a fraqueza
De uma pobre mulher inerme, só!

Tu és tão grande como é grande o gênio
í‰s tão brilhante como a própria luz,
Dentre os infames do calvário d'arte,
Tu foste o Cristo, foi o palco a cruz! ...

Mas estamos unidos a adorar-te!
Tu és a nossa glória, a nossa fé!
Gravitar para ti é levantar-se,
Cair-te í s plantas é ficar de pé!
