Davids faldefærdig' Hytte!
Synker du nu reent i Gruus?
Konge-Spir! skal du nu flytte
Evig bort fra Juda-Huus?
Nei, da glipped jo Guds Ord!
Bethlehem! saa bliv da stor!
Lad det kiendes paa din Fyrste,
At af Smaat udsprang det Største!

Glade Aander! Engle-Hære!
I, som med Forundring saae
Soel og Maane fordum lære
Vei og Sti paa Himlens Blaa,
Saae al Stjerne-Hallens Pragt
Ved Guds Ord og Bliv frembragt
Nu I see dog Nyt i Svøbet,
Mere sært end Himmel-Løbet!

Skabningen I har omvanket,
Saae ved Tidens Fødsel godt
Støvet i Guds Hænder sanket,
Af hans Aand til Jordens Drot!
Manden faldt og Engle græd,
Haabed dog paa Kvindens Sæd,
Synge nu: Guds Søn forblummet
Ligger svøbt i Krybbe-Rummet!

Skue-Plads for ny Mirakler
Blevet er den faldne Jord!
Engle der nu bære Fakler
For et Barn ved Navn: Guds Ord!
Guddoms-Blivet anden Gang
Priser Morgen-Stjerners Sang!
Nu paa Marken samme Tone
Lyder sødt, som for Guds Throne!

Reist er Davids faldne Hytte
Nu af Gabriel i Løn!
Aldrig skal nu Spiret flytte,
Evig throner Davids Søn!
Bethlehem! din Giæste-Stald
Er, som Himlens Stjerne-Hall,
Uden Gylden-Spir og Taarne,
Throne-Sal for den Eenbaarne!
