Den anden Vaar Du sad hos Fader ene,
Mens jeg drog hjemløs om i fremmed Land.

Naar Trækfugl fløi til Danmarks Bøgegrene.

Du hørte Larm af Hjul paa haarde Stene,
Paa Malerbordet Blomster stod i Vand;
De smiled — men Du var dog ei i stand
Til ret at see hvad Smilet kunde mene.

De glæded sig til Livet ved din Haand
Bland Tusindfryd, naar andre Blomster døde,
Men vore hvide Roser blev til røde.

Saa skulde selv Novemberstormens Aand
Ei standse hjemløs Sangfugl i det Fjerne,
Som fløi mod Dig og saae mod Nordens Stjerne.
