Du Verdens skjulte Sjæl, hvis Røst
Vi lytte til, naar Havet bruser,
Naar Sukket fra Naturens Bryst
igjennem Skovens Templer suser!

Du stærk i Tordenskyens Brag,
Du høit i Stormens Orgler taler;
Dog mildt i Nattergaleslag
Din Sommerdrøm vor Sjæl husvaler.

Du aander ud den Strøm af Liv,
Som gjennembruser Verdens Indre;
Du drømmer skjult i lave Siv
Om evig Lov, hvor Stjerner tindre.

Naturens Sjæl! i dig dog boer
Et Savn, der er dig selv en Gaade:
Du aner kun det Livets Ord,
Som skal din Løndoms Runer raade —

Livsordet saligt løser Livets Gaade!
